I have over 20 years creating and reading blueprint and construction drawings. I use AutoCAD to draft and design blue prints for several disciplines including, architectural, mechanical, electrical, facilities, HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire alarm, security alarm, underground mapping IGS, and plc controls. 3D model and 2D drafting for cable tray layouts, panel enclosure designs, conduit runs, factory plant layouts, and hand tool designs. I have also created MCC, P&ID, and PLC designs. Usually all files are kept electronically based upon company standards. Me personally I create a main folder based upon the company, then sub folders based upon the job description and date started, then sometimes subfolders splitting disciplines like architectural, electrical, etc.

With Cad standards changing based solely upon the company, I learn and adapt quickly. Some companies though I find have no standards setup, in those cases, I try to help influence a new standard based on layer and colors for items, block creation and use ultimately to streamline the design process by at least 25%. I Also set standards like text size, style, color, plotting, printing, title blocks, smart blocks, intelligent blocks, etc. Plotting and printing standards can be the hardest to setup but the most critical so the blue prints all look the same no matter the computer or end user printing it. Sometimes when there are no standard setup things like at my previous employer you have issues of prints with text illegible because text too light or so dark the lines merge.
